He enjoyed talking about the Homesteader history of Duluth, Normanna and Alden townships. He was a long term member of the American Legion. Howard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy; his brothers, Thure, Richard and Bob; and a sister, Lois.

He is survived by his children, Archie (Darla), Susan (Clifford) Hanson and Lisa (Jason) Hollinday; eight grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; and a sister Laraine Cottrell. Howard’s family would like to thank the staff at Waterview Shores Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing Facility for the loving care they provided for several stays in the past 5 years.
