FLOYD SVE

Floyd Sve, 89, died February 19, 2024, with Hospice Care at Lake View Memorial Hospital in Two Harbors, MN after a short illness. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Roberta, their sons Richard (Rhonda) Sve and Norman Sve, their grandchildren, Gina Sve, Kelly (Kyle) Erickson, Leif (Elizabeth) Sve and Samantha (Cody) Baker, and great grandchildren, Madilyn and Abigail Baker and Hazel Erickson. He was preceded in death by his sister Verna Torstenson and brothers Walter and Leonard Sve.

Floyd married Roberta Johnson and built their home in Little Marais, MN where they raised their sons. While building their home Floyd fell off a ladder, an experience that equally amused and terrified Roberta.

Floyd graduated from Two Harbors High School in 1953. He was a skilled man with many talents. In his youth he worked for several contractors during the construction of the Reserve Mining Company at Silver Bay. When their power plant went into service, he was employed there.

Over the years, Floyd used his skills in carpentry as well as remodeling and mechanic work. He crafted many beautiful things that survive as a testament to his skill, among them a baby cradle used by several generations of Sve descendants. Floyd was also mechanically inclined, and worked part time at Eddie’s Repair Shop in Little Marais for a number of years. He worked for Reserve Mining until they closed in 1986, after which he went into the roofing business.

Beginning in 1989, Floyd and Roberta spent 27 winters flocking with other snowbirds to Yuma, AZ. Initially drawn there by Roberta’s career, Floyd found work for a large RV resort. He enjoyed working in their maintenance department until he was 81 years old.

Floyd enjoyed fishing and always had a boat or boats of various sizes. For many years, he eagerly looked forward to an autumn trip to Isle Royale with his sons. His favorites were two fishing trips to Northwest Territories, Canada. The fondest fishing memories were made on a trip to Alaska with Rich and Norm.

For many years, Floyd was a member of the Sychar Lutheran Church and the Sons of Norway Lodge. Memorial services will be held on Saturday February 24, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and the service will follow at 11:00 AM at Sychar Lutheran Church in Silver Bay, MN.

Floyd donated his body to the University of Minnesota Medical School.

Memorials preferred to Sychar Church or the Commercial Fishing Museum in Tofte, MN.
