Dannie E. Jones, age 88, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026, just as he wished.
Dannie was born in Bozoo, West Virginia, to Buren and Thelma (Hayes) Jones. He graduated from high school in West Virginia, but it didn’t take him long to make a beeline back up north to Lutsen, Minnesota. His friends were there, and more importantly, Dannie knew it was simply the best place in the world to live. Lutsen became home, and it was where he built a life with friends, family, and work.
On July 18, 1959, Dannie married Barbara Ann Monson. Together, they built a life spanning 67 years of marriage and raised their two daughters, Sandra Jean and Laura Lee.
Dannie began working at LTV Steel in 1957, where he spent his career before eventually retiring. Retirement gave him more time for some of the things he enjoyed most. Dannie loved his tractor and gardening. He took great pleasure in growing and tending to things.
Dannie was preceded in death by his parents, Buren and Thelma (Hayes) Jones; his sister, Jane (Jones) Brust; and his niece, Kimberly (Brust) Kane.
He leaves behind his wife Barbara (Monson) Jones; his daughters, Sandra (Jones) Bockovich with her husband, John, and Laura (Jones) LaFavor with her husband, Jay; his five grandchildren, Jason LaFavor, LeeEllen (Luke) Minson, MaeAnna (Kurt) Mitthun, Halle Bockovich, and Daniel Bockovich; and his great-granddaughter, Kimber Minson.
After 88 years, Dannie leaves behind a life well lived, a family who loved him dearly, and many memories planted along the North Shore he was always so happy to call home.
