Don Swanson, 93, Two Harbors, died Wednesday, April 19, 2023 in Two Harbors
Don was born to Arvid and Margaret (Erickson) Swanson on April 13, 1930 in Two Harbors and was a life-long resident of the Two Harbors area. He started driving for a living at age 16 for the Scandinavian Cooperative Store in Two Harbors, and also worked part-time for Sonju Motors in their parts department and driving their cab. He was employed by the D M & I R Railroad as a pipefitter’s helper for 15 years, and Universal Fiberglass for a short time, and part-time for DelRay Pearson’s Bus Service, and later full-time for Lake Superior School District as a bus driver and mechanic.
In 1977, he went to work for Monson Trucking and later Anderson Trucking. After retiring he continued to drive as a courier for API. In his earlier years Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen; a brother, Hubert; and a daughter, Cheryl Wallat. Don is survived by his sons, Ken (Connie) Swanson and Chuck (Susie) Swanson; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
