LAKE COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER APRIL 15, 2024

The Lake County Planning Commission met in session at 4:00 p.m. on this date and con­ducted hearings and other business.

I-24-007r– Motion by Ellefson support­ed by B. Ernest to recommend to County Board 5-year approval with conditions of an interim use application filed by Jerry Correll and Wade LeBlanc for the continuation of a gravel pit that includes pit run operations, bituminous batch plants, aggregate crushing & screening, crushed rock storage, and con­crete/asphalt recycling at 4619 Correll Rd., Finland MN. The property is described as: SE 1/4 of SW 1/4 of Section 2, Township 57, Range 8; 40 Acres; Zoned non-shoreland; R-2/Residential District; 5-acre minimum, Beaver Bay Township. PID 26-5708-02670. Motion carried; Hoops, Sve, Bathke, Unzeitig, J. Ernest, B. Ernest, and Ellefson voting in fa­vor; none opposed. (PCR-24-008)

C-24-002– Motion by Bathke supported by Sve, to reconvene the conditional use hearing from the March 18, 2024 Planning Commission meeting. Motion by Unzeitig supported by J. Ernest to approve the con­ditional use application, with conditions, filed by Maji ya Chai Land Sanctuary requesting construction of a nature-based retreat center with a focus on Black, Indigenous, and peo­ple of color with lodging for 32 people that will host occasional community events at 2792 Clark Rd., Two Harbors MN 55616. The prop­erty is described as: N 1/2 of N 1/2 of SW 1/4, Section 27, Township 54 Range 10 West of the Fourth Principal Meridian; 40 acres, Zoned shoreland; R-1/Residential District; 10 acre minimum, Silver Creek Township. PID 29-5410-27550 / 27490. Motion carried; Hoops, Sve, Bathke, Unzeitig, J. Ernest, B. Ernest, and Ellefson voting in favor; none op­posed. (PCR-24-007)

I-24-008r– Motion by B. Ernest supported by Unzeitig to recommend to County Board 5-year approval with conditions of an interim use application filed by Steven VanHouse for the continuation of a gravel pit that includes pit run operations, aggregate crushing & screening, and concrete/asphalt recycling at 6225 Lax Lake Rd., Silver Bay MN. The property is described as: NE 1/4 of SW 1/4 of Section 30, Township 57, Range 7 40 acres, zoned Shoreland; FR/Forest Recre­ation District; 10-acre minimum, Crystal Bay Township. PID 27-5707-30490. Motion car­ried; Hoops, Sve, Bathke, Unzeitig, J. Ernest, B. Ernest, and Ellefson voting in favor; none opposed. (PCR-24-009)

I-24-006i– Motion by Bathke supported by J. Ernest to table until May 20, 2024 at 5:00pm, the initial interim use application for a vacation rental home filed by Taylor and Charissa Hall at 960 Deerview Lane, Two Harbors MN 55616. The property is described as: N 300ft of SW 1/4 of SE 1/4 less W 660 ft in Section 9, Township 52, Range 11 5.0 acres, zoned non-shoreland; R-2/ Residen­tial District; 5 acre minimum, Motion carried; Hoops, Sve, Bathke, Unzeitig, J. Ernest, B. Ernest, and Ellefson voting in favor; none opposed.

Motion by Unzeitig supported by B. Er­nest to approve the March 18, 2024 minutes as submitted. Motion carried; Hoops, Sve, Bathke, Unzeitig, J. Ernest, B. Ernest, and Ellefson voting in favor; none opposed.

Motion by Sve supported by Unzeitig to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried; Hoops, Sve, Bathke, Unzeitig, J. Ernest, B. Ernest, and Ellefson voting in favor; none opposed. The meeting was adjourned at 8:34 p.m.
