Publisher Christine and I are big fans of motorcycling. We’ve had a good season so far and with the threat of Super El Nino this year, our riding seasons may last longer. El Nino is called that because it normally is its strongest around Christmas; the season of the Christ Child. It is expected to make us warmer than normal and the process could begin here in October.
October will have its ups and downs as far as temperature goes. The month will start down but then go up. It should finally average out one degree more than normal. Precip will unfortunately stay low all month long. The month will end with another one inch total below normal. October 1st to 6th should be cool and showery. The 7th to 17th should be cool so don’t be too surprised if a few flurries fly. The 18th to 27th will turn sunny and warm. The 28th to 31st will be mild and rainy.
With gasoline prices tropospheric and fuel oil prices stratospheric, motorcycle commuting has been saving me some money and hopefully reducing my carbon pollution. My Harley Sportster 1200S gets in the 40’s for mpg. My Royal Enfield Bullet 500 pushes towards the 60’s. Technically, I get even higher when it decides to break down and I have to push it home.
If Super El Nino really warms us up, hopefully we all can save some money on heating and clear the air a little, too. But, we also hope for the best for winter tourism businesses who need that white gold to survive. Weather is always a double edged sword around here.
