Though there was some screaming at the Two Harbors Agates Football game on Friday the 13th, it wasn’t out of fear of the superstitious date. There was a lot of cheering when the home team skunked Pine City with a final score of 45-0.
Seems the season went pretty quick, seeing that last Friday’s game was the final regular home game of the year. The final regular season game is against the Hibbing Bluejackets at Cheever Field. Two Harbors currently ranks 3rd out of 7 teams in the Northeast-White district, behind Pequot Lakes Patriots and the undefeated Esko Eskomos. Hibbing ranks 6th, just above Pine City.
Against Pine City, the Agates had one touchdown in the 1st quarter scored by #10 Tate Nelson, a junior at Two Harbors High School. #15 Zach Johnson, a sophomore, kicked the extra point. The two teammates would do the same in both the 2nd and the 3rd. #15 Zach Johnson also kicked two good field goals after #44 Michael Loisel, a senior, and #11 Jacob Carpenter, a junior, each scored touchdowns in the 2nd. He would do the same when #25 Isaiah Hietala scored a touchdown in in the last minute of the 3rd. The score was 42-0 going into the 4th where #15 Zach Johnson would kick a field goal that ended the game with 45-0.
On top of the many practices, homework, traveling, and other priorities, the Agates team still takes time to volunteer in the community. After game day, Tate Nelson, Chase Anderson, Tommy DeChantal, Zach Bentler, Zack Libal, Anders Hastings, Oren Dewey, and Carter Nelson helped some folks with a move. Chase Anderson, Coach Ben Eliason, and Jace Ruberg helped out at the pony football team game then headed to the library to help move books.
Thank you for volunteering and helping out the community, Agates! And good luck at your upcoming game at Hibbing!
