The Scarlet Goodbye to Perform Silver Bay Music In City Center Park Concert August 25th

(FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 22, 2023 – Silver Bay, MN) – Today, Rocky Wall Productions announced that THE SCARLET GOODBYE will perform a free concert on the City Center Park stage in downtown Silver Bay at 7:30 p.m., Friday, August 25th. This is the seventh of eight free Friday night Silver Bay Music In The Park Concert Series events.

“The Scarlet Goodbye, labelled the most unlikely mash-up in Minnesota Music History, is the creative combination of former Soul Asylum member Daniel Murphy and Minneapolis entrepreneur and rocker Jeff Arundel,” said Rocky Wall Productions President Nelson French, “This successful collaboration combines classic songwriting chemistry and tasteful know-how to produce an amazing Americana sound with a heavy Minnesota influence.”

The Scarlet Goodbye is the musical project of Daniel Murphy (Soul Asylum and Golden Smog) and Jeff Arundel, who met in a chance encounter in a cafe. The musical collaboration that followed is a real and inspirational turnaround for Murphy, who had turned his back on music some years ago. Veering from blistering rockers to majestically emotional ballads, Murphy and Arundel create a mutual skin-graft of Arundel’s melancholia and Murphy’s sneer, each welcoming the other onto their own hallowed turf for a roll-about.

Arundel has an old log cabin on Lake Superior’s North Shore where some of their songs have been perfected. Of their song Angel Dust, Arundel says, “Over and over Dan would play it, shaping it as he went, while the waves of the Big Lake hit the shore and the stars rose in the twilight sky. That’s what I think went into the song – birthed on the shores of the Big Lake, with everything that meant. These lyrics are mostly Dan’s, I especially love the line “Angel Dust—across the Northern Skies”!

Accompanying Arundel and Murphy will be their touring band consisting of Ben Peterson on drums, Pat Nelson on bass guitar, and Pat Frederick on keyboards, violin, and mandolin.

This FREE outdoor concert will be held on Friday, August 25th at Silver Bay’s City Center Park near City Hall. You are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and blanket for comfort. Feel free to show up downtown anytime after 6:00 pm. Saigon Café will be on site to meet your food, beverage and sweet needs. Zoe’s Pizza Kitchen 96 Outer Drive, serves from their menu until 8:00 p.m. There will also be several local craft vendors including the Bay Area Historical Society and others featuring craft items. The vendors will be present before and during the concert.

Our eighth and final concert of the 2023 season will be on Friday, September 1st and will feature ERIK KOSKINEN, one of the best American roots songwriters in the state, will bring his distinctive blend of folk, country, rock ‘n’ roll and blues to Silver Bay.

In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved indoors to the Reunion Hall, 97 Outer Drive, Silver Bay.
