Nineteen teams filled the Silver Bay Golf Course on Friday afternoon for the annual Alumni & Friends Scramble, a favorite Bay Days tradition. The scramble was created as an additional activity for visitors during Bay Days and is scheduled so golfers finish before the parade.
This year’s field brought 76 golfers to the course. Wade LeBlanc said the event has expanded over the years as more teams return annually. Golfers traveled from multiple states, and a group from Canada brought a custom ball and marker reading “Canada loves Silver Bay 70th.”
Golf course superintendent Norma O’Leary and volunteer Mike Guzzo oversee the scramble each year, handling team assignments, entry fees, and course preparation.
“They do most of the work,” LeBlanc said. “Mike and Norma have been helping a long time, so they got her dialed in.”
To accommodate the 19 teams, O’Leary added a temporary tenth hole. The Bay Days Committee helps fund prizes, with entry fees covering the rest. LeBlanc described the scramble as a simple community event rather than a fundraiser, meant to give people something extra to do while they’re in town for Bay Days.
The first‑place team was recognized, and additional prizes were drawn by name.
LeBlanc said the weekend, which marked the 70th anniversary as a city, and Two Harbors’ Heritage Days happening down the road, brought strong turnout across the region.
“It’s a great weekend for the North Shore,” he said.
LeBlanc thanked the Bay Days Committee, Mike Guzzo, Norma O’Leary, and the golf course staff for the successful and enjoyable event.
