Noted author and outdoorsman Robert Gilsvik passed away October 23, 2024 One month before his 91 birthday. He was living at Agate Bay Assisted Living in Two Harbors.
Known to all as “Bob”, he grew up in North Minneapolis, served in the military and married Patricia Kearns. In 1972 they moved with their children to Grand Rapids to pursue a career as an Outdoor Writer, primarily hunting and fishing stories. He wrote freelance for many publications including: Outdoor Life, Field and Stream, Sports Afield, American Hunter, Minnesota Sportsman and Fur Fish Game, where he became the Trapping Editor for many years. He Authored four books and was a member of the outdoor writers Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia; son in law, Keith Esse; parents and siblings. He is survived by his children, David (Patti) Gilsvik, Tracy Gilsvik, Keith Gilsvik; grandchildren, Hanna (Mark), Emily (Sam,) Leif (Elina) Gilsvik, Claire Esse; and great grandchildren, Jasper, Kai and Ada Nelson. Decades long fishing buddy Dave Alban and son Phil, friends Karen and Joe Vicberg, and Mike and Kris Garey. Also his newest friends, the “Thursday Poker Game bunch”, and his second family at Agate Bay Assisted and the folks at Hospice.
Bob will be remembered for his easy going nature and love of the outdoors, as well as a somewhat twisted sense of humor, he will be missed.
