Linda Marie Lamb, nee Lawrence, 79, of Schroeder, MN, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2024, in Duluth, Mn. Born on September 17, 1944, to Thomas Donald and Dorothy Lawrence in North St. Paul, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Timothy Lawrence.
Linda graduated from North St. Paul High School and then began attending St. Lukes nursing school in Duluth. There, she met her husband and chose to leave school to start a family. She moved with him to Schroeder to raise their three children and operate Lambs Resort, Marine Supply and Grocery store, and the Schroeder Baking Company.
Linda then decided to further her education by earning her bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN, and her master’s degree as a Registered Dietitian from Tufts University in Boston, MA, where she graduated Cum Laude.
Her dietetic career encompassed working as a Clinical Dietitian and Consultant as well as a Dietetics Educator. Her impactful and compassionate work included positions with North Shore Health, Grand Marais, Hibbing General Hospital, Chris Jenson Health and Rehab Center, Duluth, and with the Bois Fort Band of Chippewa of Nett Lake, MN, and the Grand Portage Band health programs. She was invited to teach for the last two years in the Dietary and Nutrition Science department at the College of Saint Scholastica, successfully graduating the final classes of Registered Dietitians. Additionally, she developed and was the first Executive Director of the Cook County Higher Education Program.
Linda was instrumental in founding the Cross River Heritage Center in Schroeder, with the help of others in the community. Linda and the board were successful in receiving a gift to remodel the Heritage building. Her dedication to the center included serving on the board, grant writing, archiving, and publishing the newsletter for twenty years. The center thrived with several story boards of events in the history of Schroeder and the area, coupled with special events.
Linda loved cooking with her family, especially with her grandchildren. This was a great joy for her, sharing special recipes and time with the kids.
Her lifetime dedication to God and the Zoar Lutheran Church in Tofte, MN was very important to the church and Linda. She was on the board, in the choir, and a member of the caring committee. Her love for cooking and background as a dietitian were essential in helping to develop a new kitchen. In retirement as an accomplished quilter Linda facilitated cultural exchanges between the Swedish and the Duluth/Northshore quilters.
Linda leaves behind her beloved husband, H. A. “Skip” Lamb; children, Colleen E. Lamb, Charles T. (Jenny Carter) Lamb, and Timothy H. Lamb; grandchildren, Quinn, Ozzie, William, and Halle; a brother, as well as sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
