Rep. Zeleznikar Secures Support for Two Harbors Businesses, Infrastructure, Hospitals, and Local Healthcare Workforce Training
TWO HARBORS, MN — Rep. Natalie Zeleznikar supports legislation which supports businesses, tourism, infrastructure, and healthcare workforce development in Two Harbors and across Lake County.
“Two Harbors is a vital part of our region’s economy, and we need to support both our small businesses and the next generation of workers,” said Rep. Zeleznikar.
A key priority is HF4945, which provides construction mitigation grants to businesses impacted by Highway 61 construction, helping ensure local businesses can remain open and viable during disruptions.
Rep. Zeleznikar also authored HF0569, investing in public infrastructure funding for Hwy 61 which is critical to support residents, growth, and tourism, and HF2424, which allows for a social district liquor license—creating new opportunities for local businesses.
A major focus of Zeleznikar’s work is expanding access to healthcare training locally. Through HF0105, she secured funding for certified nursing assistant (CNA) training at Aspirus Lake View Hospital, helping build a local workforce pipeline. She also secured funding for HF0337, local high school students to receive free EMT training in their 11th & 12th grade years, and then they are eligible to take their exam after graduation. These programs are critical for rural emergency services.
“My commitment to healthcare workforce development is personal,” Zeleznikar said. “I began my career in 10th grade health occupations classes, becoming a CNA at age 16. In 1997, I began my career as a nursing home administrator right here in Two Harbors. I understand firsthand the importance of having training available locally.”
Zeleznikar emphasized that access to training is a key barrier in rural communities.
“When training programs are an hour away, that simply doesn’t work for many people,” she said. “By bringing CNA and EMT training opportunities directly into our communities, we remove barriers and create pathways for people to enter meaningful careers close to home.”
Supporting long-term economic opportunity, Zeleznikar also signed onto HF2447, which establishes a framework for the orderly and environmentally responsible development of the state’s gas resources, including helium—positioning Minnesota for future economic growth while maintaining strong environmental protections.
In addition, Zeleznikar is co-authoring HF4072, establishing a local news talent pipeline program that provides students with apprenticeship opportunities in journalism and media, helping build career skills while strengthening local news coverage in communities like Two Harbors.
“These solutions reflect what we hear from local businesses, families, and providers— support during challenges and real opportunities for growth,” Zeleznikar said.
Rep. Zeleznikar continues to advocate for policies that strengthen Lake County’s economy, support its workforce, and ensure communities like Two Harbors remain strong for generations to come.
