If you’ve been side-eyeing that pile in your basement, garage, or that one closet you pretend doesn’t exist, this is your sign. The 3rd Annual City-Wide Rummage Sale Weekend is happening June 12–14, giving residents the chance to clear out unused items, make a little extra cash, and give those items a second life. With sales happening throughout town, it also creates an opportunity for shoppers to spend the day treasure hunting from one stop to the next.
This year’s event also lines up with Boulevard Exchange Day on June 13, making participation even more flexible. For those who don’t have enough items for a full sale, or simply want a lower-effort option, items can be placed on the boulevard for others to take. It also provides an easy transition at the end of a sale day, allowing remaining items to be moved outside without the need for supervision.
• Don’t have enough for a full sale? Put items on the boulevard
• Wrapping up early? Move leftover items out there
• Prefer to keep it simple? No setup or supervision required
The event itself is intentionally simple and designed to encourage as many people as possible to participate. There are no formal registrations or fees, just neighbors taking part and helping build momentum across the community.
• Choose the days and times you want to host your sale (any or all of June 12–14)
• Send your location, times, and a short description to Jenny Bjerken for social media promotion
• Contact the Northshore Journal to place your rummage sale ad, email: northshorejournal@gmail.com or call 218-226-3335
Put up your own signs around town.
Sales will be promoted through a Facebook event and local community pages, making it easier for shoppers to map out their stops and plan their day. The hope is that with enough participation, the weekend becomes more than just individual sales … it becomes a shared community experience.
“The goal is simple, the more people who participate, the more fun it is,” said organizer Jenny Bjerken. “It gives people a reason to get out, explore town, and make a day of it.”
Beyond the chance to make some money, there are other benefits to taking part. Clearing out unused items can create a sense of relief and make homes feel more manageable. Many people find items they forgot they owned while sorting, and those items often end up being exactly what someone else is looking for. Events like this also bring people out into the community, creating small but meaningful moments of connection.
For those planning to host a sale, a few simple tips can make the experience smoother and more successful:
• Price items to sell – shoppers are looking for deals
• Group similar items together for easier browsing
• Have small bills and change available
• Keep your setup simple and easy to navigate
• If items don’t sell, consider moving them to the boulevard
At its core, the City-Wide Rummage Sale Weekend is about making it easier to let go of what’s no longer needed while creating something fun for the community. Whether you host a full sale, set a few items out on the boulevard, or spend the weekend exploring what others have to offer, June 12–14 is a chance to take part in something that continues to grow each year.
