Cook County Vikings Basketball Player Breaks Rebound Record

Though the Cook County Vikings fell to the Ely/Krekelberg Home School Team in a non-conference game, it was a close one. The game was played at the Pam Taylor Gymnasium in Cook County on December 19th with a final score of 56-53. Junior Denali Blackwell scored 20 of those points, 6 bas­kets being 3-point shots.

Blackwell received player of the game on the December 15th game against the 8-time defending champions, the Cromwell Cardinals. Blackwell scored 26 points, had 8 rebounds, and 2 assists in that game which ended in a 63-66 score.

Senior Recko Helmerson-Skildum was a game standout against Ely/ Krekelberg. The 6’4” player scored 14 points and had 3 assists. With his impressive 19 rebounds, he broke the school record for most rebounds in a game since 2013. Helmer­son-Skildum was also recognized with an energy award in the Decem­ber 15th game against Cromwell for scoring 10 points, having 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

A commenter on the team’s Facebook page noted it was fun to see Helmerson-Skildum fired up and taking charge!

Congratulations to Denali Black­well and Recko Helmerson-Skidum for their achievements so far in the season.
