There is snow way anyone should miss out on the first annual Snow Day in the Bay event to be held in Silver Bay on March 9th, 2024. The schedule of events will keep families busy all day and adults entertained all night.
Donna McCurdy-Wolke, Troy LeBlanc and his wife Sylvia answered the call of The Best of the North Shore, who had advertised the need for organizers of the event. That was only about a month ago and the small but mighty team has impressively put together a day jammed packed with activities for everyone to enjoy.
“I do a lot of event planning for vendors,” said Donna, who lives in Finland and sells Avon and Color Street Nails on the side. Her previous experience has proven to be an asset to organizing Snow Day in the Bay. She was able to call on a myriad of vendors with short notice to sign up for a spot in the Vendor/ Craft Fair in the Reunion Hall. This opportunity has seen a great response. “It’s exciting because there are some added vendors from out of town that don’t usually attend our events.”
Outside of shopping for treasures found at the craft fair, there will be plenty to eat. Na-Cho Bizness will be set up inside the hall and the Lake Vermillion Weiner Cruiser will be behind the Silver Bay Lounge serving hot dogs. They would like to hold a hot dog eating contest, if you or someone you know is game! (I have politely declined.) There will also be egg rolls, treats, Girl Scout cookies, and more.
The After Prom committee will be raising money by selling hot chocolate, in case you want to wash down all the yummy goodness you’ve sampled throughout the day. (Thank you to Four Seasons for donating the hot chocolate and Bri-Esa’s for the cups!)
The lack of snow may put a damper on a few planned events, including the snowman building contest, the dog sled rides, and the sliding hill. However, Donna promises that the day will not be canceled. “There will still be plenty to do,” she said.
Some of these things to do include giving prizes. The cribbage and bean bag tournaments each have a $10 entry. The winners will take it all. The vintage snowmobile ride may be converted to a vintage snowmobile show, but prizes will be awarded so make sure you are there to show off your sled! There will also be a 9 pin no-tap bowling tournament held at the bowling alley. Other prizes available will include Mobil gas cards, donated by Wade LeBlanc, and a pool party at the Black Beach Inn.
The Best of the North Shore has helped with sponsoring the event through advertising and Lovin’ Lake County covered costs such as the rent of the Reunion Hall, insurance for the event, and sponsoring the music. Music by Beer Money will play at the Reunion Hall to round off the fun-filled day.
Donna understands the importance of such an event in the winter months for the community. “I think it’s nice for people to get together and we’re trying to do everything outdoors, so hopefully we’ll have a good day,” she said. “We’re hoping to get people with their kids to enjoy the day.”
