Painting in the Woods at Birch Grove

Diane Blanchette, Director

Birch Grove Community School

Birch Grove Community School held its annual “Painting in the Woods” with local artist Mary LaBerge this first week of October.

This year the painting theme was the Northern Lights, where students had a more personal choice of the colors to be used for the “lights” portion of their painting. Students started out with a black canvas and listened closely to Mary about each step, learning about each brush, different strokes and techniques, placements, tips and tricks. The students would watch Mary first, and then try their hand at it.

It was a beautiful day for this event and everyone’s painting turned out great! The student’s Northern Lights paintings will be displayed in the entryway of the Birch Grove Community School building and will be rotated throughout the school year so that everyone’s painting has a chance to be on display. Paintings will go home on the last day of the year so that families can enjoy them too!

Thank you to Mary, for sharing her skills and talents with Birch Grove students! See you next year!
