Shelby J. Wrege, 85, of Beaver Bay died Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at her home. She was born on September 6, 1937 to Helmuth and Edith (Colver) Wrege in Mellen, WI, grew up in nearby Cozy Valley, and attended Mellen schools. After high school she worked at Concordia College in River Forest, Illinois. After her marriage to Chester Michel, they moved to Silver Bay in 1959, and later to Beaver Bay where she was a homemaker through the years.
Shelby was a faithful follower of Christ and a member of Faith Lutheran Church. As an active community member, she served on the Beaver Bay City Council, served as acting Mayor, on the Beaver Bay Historical Society, Beaver Bay Firettes, Beaver Bay Smelt Fry, Bay to Bay Run, Beargrease Race, Community Education Board, Community Blood Drive, and Secret Sisters. She was also active in the quilters at church, a seamstress for William Kelley High School Theatre, and community seamstress to all.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Melody May Michel; siblings, Virgil, Myrlin, Alfred, Mildred, and twin sister, Shirley.
Shelby is survived by her daughters, Debra (Tim) Anderson or Beaver Bay and Penny (James Murphy) Michel of Olympia, Washington; grandchildren, Jacob Anderson, Lindy (Matt Cronje) Anderson, and Kyle (Bora Kim) Anderson; great-granddaughter, Chloe Kim Anderson; and siblings, Joan Bonitz, Vera Wrege, Gordon Wrege, Evelyn Wrege and Helmuth Wrege Jr.
