April to straddle normal for temperature and precip trends

Forty years ago, I got my first TV job as janitor at Channel 3 dumping the garbage of stars like Marsh Nelson, Michelle Lee, Pat Kelly, Karl Spring and Darren Danielson. Now that Darren has retired from his third home at Channel 10, that leaves me as the longest serving television “personality” (I use the term loosely) in the Northland. That and a buck will get me a cup of coffee at Holiday (like most Ely guys, I probably won’t call it Circle K for another 30 years.)

That coffee will at least give me a warm feeling as we wait for spring-like temperatures. I do think they will get here in April. Temperatures will be a little warmer than normal and precip will be only a little below normal, so temps in April should average one degree above average, which is right on the border of normal climate variability. Precip will be a half inch short, which hopefully won’t short change our green up.

The month’s trends look like this: April 1-6 should be mild with some thunderstorms possible. April 7-10 will be sunny and cool from Canadian high pressure cells. The 11th to 25th will be showery with near normal temperatures. The last week of the month will mild and sunny.
