Saturday, October 7th, brought nine local volleyball teams to Aurora to square off against each other at the Mesabi East Tournament. Two Harbors opened their day by winning over Chisholm in the first two sets. #3 Harper Powell, a senior, contributed 7 kills against the Chisholm Bluestreaks. Her teammate, #4 Brooklyn Nelson is credited with 8 sets. The sophomore would set up 6 more in the next game against North Woods.
Unfortunately for the Agates, the Grizzlies were able to beat them in two sets. North Woods would go on to win over Chisolm, but not before contending with the Agate’s #1 Rachel Bopp, a junior, who sent 5 kills over the net.
Undeterred, the Agates moved forward with a win over Hinkley-Finlayson. The first set ended with the Agates at 25 over the Jaguar’s 12. In the second set the scores flip flopped and by the end of the 3rd, Two Harbors had taken the game.
In the end, Floodwood would knock out the Agates with a 1-2 final score. The Agates had lost to the Po-lar Bears earlier this month, as well. Two Harbors took fifth place in the Mesabi East Tournament. The championship went to Ely who had a 4-0 day.
