(July 17, 2023 – Silver Bay, MN) – Silver Bay Shuttle Service announces an exciting new event weekend coming to the North Shore, celebrating local and visiting artists and their whimsical wheeled creations called “ArtCars”. Leading into the weekend will be an art discussion forum at Reunion Hall in Silver Bay on Thursday, August 17. An evening ArtCar Sneak Peek opportunity takes place in downtown Silver Bay on Friday, August 18. The full day exhibition takes place at the ArtCar Beach Bash at Black Beach on Saturday, August 19. All events and activities during the ArtCar Beach Bash weekend are free and open to all.
Silver Bay Shuttle Service owner Phil Huston said, “We hope to have an event to draw tourists and bring attention to the unique businesses in Silver Bay.” The public is invited to vote for their favorite ArtCar, with a grand trophy awarded to the winning ArtCar. Additional activities for all ages will be provided free of charge.
Local artist and event organizer Patti Paulson has been tapped to lead the ArtCar Beach Bash stating, “An ArtCar is a vehicle that has been painted or otherwise altered in an act of creative expression. The ArtCar Beach Bash is an opportunity for local residents and tourists to meet the artists and take photos of these rolling works of art. It’s not everyday you see an ArtCar on the North Shore, and we’ll be showcasing several of these fantastic creations”. Confirmed

On Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m., Jack Becker will lead an Art Discussion Forum, “The Importance of Art and Culture”, hosted by the Silver Bay Public Library at Reunion Hall in Silver Bay. Best known as the founder of Forecast Public Art, based in Minnesota, Becker also founded the Public Art Review, an international magazine devoted to contemporary public art. Becker currently serves on committees for the US Department of Arts and Culture, the Institute for Public Art and the Public Art Exchange.
On Friday evening, an ArtCar Sneak Peek is available at City Center Park in Silver Bay, ahead of the Music in the Park Concert. Artists will park their fabulous creations off the street near the intersections of Outer Drive and Shopping Center Drive beginning at 6 p.m.
On Saturday, at the ArtCar Beach Bash, ArtCars will be on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the lawn near the Black Beach Mini Golf and the Black Beach Inn (formerly AmericInn), with a variety of free activities lead by the ArtCar artists and other local artisans. Prizes will be awarded for winners of fun beach-related competitions: Musical Beach Towels, Hula Hoop Contest, Frisbee Disc Toss, and Beach Ball Run.
Everyone will enjoy free make-and-take craft activities: Flower Power Crowns, ArtCar Pinback Buttons, Faerie Wands, Crochet Motifs and Magnetic Personality Charms.
Other activities include: Pollinator Party with ArtBikes, Stilt Walker Demonstration, Live Beach Music by Robin Sunquiet, and Face Painting by Nexus and Bella.
Food and beverages onsite available for purchase from: Na-cho Bizness, Magic’s Wraps and Subs, Ems Lems, and Timber Coffee Company. Black Beach Mini Golf offers ice cream, pizza, hotdogs and other food items plus mini golf for purchase. Black Beach Inn offers comfortable accommodations for out-of-town guests. Silver Bay Shuttle Service is a free service providing transport throughout the Silver Bay area. 2023 ArtCar Beach Bash is co-hosted by Silver Bay Shuttle Service, Black Beach Inn (AmericInn) and Black Beach Mini Golf.
