Film Special at the Library: Mayor Humphrey of Minneapolis

An exclusive pre-PBS broadcast screening with Producer Mick Caouette

Grand Marais, MN, April 8, 2024 — The Grand Marais Public Library is excited to screen the documentary May­or Humphrey of Minneapolis on Wednesday, April 17, from 6:00-8:30 PM.

Mayor Humphrey of Minne­apolis was produced in 2023 to celebrate the 75th anniver­sary of Humphrey’s historic civil rights speech at the Na­tional Democratic Convention in July of 1948, and it will be broadcast on PBS stations na­tionwide beginning in Septem­ber.

Mick Caouette is an acclaimed documentary filmmaker who began his career in 1996, as an Associate Producer for two Court TV films, The Scottsboro Boys and The Capture and Tri­al of Adolph Eichmann. He recently produced Restore America with Bob Vila on HGTV.

Since 1999, Mick has pro­duced six independent films, three of which ap­peared nationally on PBS. Hubert H. Humphrey: The Art of the Possible, Mr. Civil Rights: Thurgood Marshall and the NAACP, and Sum­moned: Frances Perkins and the General Welfare are now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Producer Mick Caouette will lead a discussion after the film and an­swer viewer ques­tions. This movie is free and open to the pub­lic. Doors will open at 5:30. Non-alcoholic drinks with lids are welcome.

In other news, the library is partnering with the Violence Prevention Center to screen Women Talking at 6:00 PM on April 19, with discussion led by Lindsey and Jessica, VPC advocates for victims and sur­vivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
