Young Storm Squad Rallies for Third Place in Hibbing

The North Shore Storm 10U girls capped off a cold weekend in Hibbing with a thrilling overtime victory, securing third place in the tournament that brought together several area teams. The team battled through four games, showing a lot of resilience and creating plenty of excitement for fans and families in the stands.

The weekend began with a tough loss Friday evening to Northfield/Faribault, but the Storm were able to rally on Saturday. That morning brought a dominant 13–1 win over Rock Ridge, followed by another major offensive victory of 14–3 against Chisholm/ Hibbing later that night.

Those wins set the stage for Sunday’s placement game against Woodbury, where #10 Lucie Metzger delivered a decisive overtime goal for a 4–3 finish.

Team manager Kiera Wilson noted the blend of experience and new talent on the roster. The six returning players are second-year 10U skaters who have a district championship under their belt from last season. Ten teammates have moved up from the Mite level this year. The mix has created a young but determined team, eager to prove themselves this year. Head Coach Billy Wilson praised the team’s growth and effort.

“We have a young team, but the girls are continuing to improve every week,” he said. “It’s great seeing them come together as a team! They earned a solid third place, after a tough loss that started out our weekend. It’s great to see their hard work pay off.”

Team manager Wilson added, “We have some pretty excited girls heading back home today!”

That excitement now fuels a season filled with opportunity, as the Storm look to build on their Hibbing success and continue growing together on the ice.
