SHIRLEY ANN DELANEY (May 26, 1937 – November 10, 2023)

Shirley Ann (Larson) Delaney, 86, of Silver Bay, passed away peacefully, Friday, November 10, 2023, at St. Luke’s hospital in Duluth.

Shirley was born May 26, 1937, to George and Anna (Seitz) Stern in Bemidji. In 1955 she married Roger Larson and in 1956 they moved to Silver Bay and raised their family.

After Roger’s passing, Shirley was blessed with another husband and loving family when she married Duane Delaney in 2002 and moved to Dark Lake near Black Duck. She moved back to Silver Bay in March 2023, and lived with Becky and Phil, spending precious time with family.

In earlier days, Shirley enjoyed playing volleyball, snowmobiling, and berry picking, just to name a few. She was a beautiful knitter and made countless baby sweaters, socks, mittens, and dishcloths. She also enjoyed embroidery. The thrill of what her next project would be and shopping for the supplies, gave her as much enjoyment as the project did. There are stacks of patterns and skeins of yarn waiting to be knit, always with someone she loved in mind. Shirley had a host of critters that would visit the yard and brought her so much happiness.

Deer and turkeys came and went as well as many birds, ducks, squirrels, and even a hatching of turtles near her driveway. She enjoyed living independently in the country near Dark Lake for several years. Shirley loved her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren with all her heart and did her best to spoil them whenever she was able. She made sure there was an abundance of candy and treats on hand, always thinking of what things they might like or want. Learning how to shop on the internet opened a new door for making sure gifts or goodies would be sent.

Shirley was very generous and giving. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; Roger Larson and Duane Delaney; son Roger D. Larson, step-daughter, Jill Marie Wilson, brother, George Stern, sister Lin Cable.

She is survived by her daughter, Becky (Phil) Goutermont, daughter-in-law, Laurie Larson, stepchildren, Lyndsey (Ed) Moe and Keith Delaney; grandchildren, Joshua (Melissa) Goutermont, Benja-min (Angie) Goutermont, Joy (Dave) Gardner, Matthew (Brooke) Larson, Na-than (Sarah) Larson, Jessina (Trent) Mohl, Hillary (Ben) Riviere, Tony (Kim) Moe, Joshua (Darci) Wilson, Syren Delaney; 18 great- grandchildren; sister Charlotte (Darrol) Finckbone; special cousin Donald Stern; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 12:30 until the 1:30 PM funeral service on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at The United Protestant Church in Silver Bay. To share a memory or leave an online condolence visit www.cavallinfuneralhome.com.
