MARK DELRAY PEARSON (1951-2025)

DEVELOPER of SUPERIOR SHORES RESORT Throughout his life, Mark was a high achiever; from President of his high school class and member of the Honor Society to athletic success in high school Hockey and college Rugby.

An adventurer at heart, Mark left his hometown of Two Harbors to attend the University of Minnesota and the University of the Americas in Mexico where he received a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations. While in Mexico, Mark followed his restauranteur dreams and opened his first delicatessen named The Joint, a college town favorite!

Returning to the United States, he relocated to Lake Tahoe. Attracting the attention of Harrah’s Casino owners with his fluent Spanish, he was hired immediately, making Mark, at 23 years old, the youngest Baccarat dealer in the United States. After his Lake Tahoe adventure he embraced real estate at Bodega Bay, an exclusive northern California golf resort, quickly becoming the top sales associate of his team.

Mark eventually returned to his hometown of Two Harbors. Partnering with his sister Vicki, together, they re-imagined and redeveloped the old Scenic Point Resort (a cluster of cabins built in the 1930’s by his grandfather, Wally) into what is now known as the exclusive SUPERIOR SHORES RESORT.

At the same time, Mark converted Pearson Motors, built by his grandfather in 1921, into a boutique shopping mall known as Harbor Landing. Housing Tugboat Annie’s, a quaint little restaurant displaying various collectibles reminiscent of the old iron-ore shipping industry of Two Harbors, the mall is also home to The Landing, a bustling bar & pool-hall thriving to this very day.

Mark’s last hometown venture was the Viking Legends Sports Bar & Grill, where the Viking legend himself, Jim Marshall, was often seen mingling with the customers. After his many travels, including a stay in Utah, Florida, California and Nevada, his final destination was Palm Springs, where he lived happily with his adored sons and his devoted partner, Linda Pearson.

Mark passed peacefully at home in his sleep after a valiant battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Delray Walfred Pearson and Mary Ann Pearson. He is survived by his beloved children, Nick and Mark, Jr.; his sister, Vicki; and his nephew, Juan.

Mark’s professional pride and joy remains his book,

Superior Shores, The Third Harbor.

An exciting, surprising and suspenseful historical novel and account of his beloved Great Lakes Resort; it chronicles the people and the events that shaped all those who experienced it, especially Mark himself.
