JEANETTE MARIE CURPHY (August 4, 1935 – September 19, 2025)

Jeanette Marie Curphy, 90, of Brimson, MN, passed away on September 19, 2025, at her home on Bassett Lake. Jeanette, affectionately known by her family as Mutka, was born in Eveleth, Minnesota, to Alois and Mary Claus on August 4, 1935. She attended Eveleth High School, graduating in 1954. She married her high school sweetheart, Jack, and last February, they celebrated an extraordinary 70 years of marriage.

After high school and a few moves, Jeanette and Jack settled in Two Harbors, Minnesota. She dedicated herself to raising her children and later worked at Lake County Social Services for over 25 years until her retirement in 1997. The couple eventually moved to the family cabin in Brimson, Minnesota, which they cherished as their home.

Jeanette was a woman of many interests, but she was best known for her exceptional cooking. Her talent in the kitchen was well-renowned, particularly her holiday potica, family meals, and beautifully arranged tables. She loved friendly competition and was a multiple-time family smear champion and Bassett Lake boat parade winner. Those who were close often enjoyed her witty and keen sense of humor.

An avid reader and gardener, Jeanette enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. She was a lifelong Minnesota Vikings fan and took great pride in her Polish heritage. Above all, Jeanette’s greatest pride and joy was her family. Her ideal day was spent with loved ones visiting at their home on Bassett Lake.

A devout Catholic, Jeanette was an active member of the Bassett Community Church, embodying faith and love in her everyday life.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Dorothy Cronkrite, Joanne Lindgren and Nancy Chiaverini; and brother, James Claus.

Jeanette is survived by her husband, Jack; children, Gordy (Dianne) Curphy, Teri (Pierre) Thomey, Sandy Byron, Stephan “Pepe” (Barb) Curphy, and Jack (Lori) Curphy; beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister, Lorraine Mayasich.

Jeanette was a very giving person; she had many pets over the years, and her favorite place to get them was the Humane Society. Please remember your local Humane Society when you are making a donation or getting a new pet.

Visitation to be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 9th at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, with Memorial Service at Noon and reception to follow.
