David Lewis of Leonard, Minnesota, died in the early morning of Friday, July 17, 2026, at the Sanford Hospital in Bemidji, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Clearbrook, Minnesota, with a visitation one hour prior. A visitation will also be held the night prior on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at the Cease Family Funeral Home from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service starting at 6:30. Interment will be held at the Silver Creek Cemetery in Clearbrook, Minnesota, at a later date. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.
David Lewis was born in Clearbrook, Minnesota, on December 9, 1941, the son of Inez (Engebretson) and Clarence Lewis. He grew up in both Bagley and Clearbrook Communities and graduated from Clearbrook High School on May 28, 1959. David was Baptized and Confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He attended Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Leonard and Good Shepherd of Clearbrook, and Sychar Lutheran Church of Silver Bay while raising his family there.
David attended college at Bemidji State University, achieving both a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and later a Master of Science in Education, which he completed in 1970.
David married Agnes (Penny) Pengilly on December 28, 1963 in Langdon, North Dakota. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis then made their first home in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, where David began his teaching career. They moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, where he also taught for 1 year, then they moved to Silver Bay, Minnesota, where David taught until he retired at age 56 in the year 1996. David and Penny raised 3 children in Silver Bay: Darla, Eric and Roxanne. After his retirement, David and Penny moved back to Leonard, Minnesota, where David had previously purchased the family farm he had grown up on. David and his family spent many of their summers, weekends and holidays on the farm in Leonard, and with Grandma Ine, his mother, in Clearbrook. David always had an incredible amount of energy and believed in hard work. He was actively involved with farming, gardening, forestry, hunting and fishing, and family.
David is survived by his Wife Penny and their 3 Children, Darla (Kevin)Stebbins, Eric (Nancy) Lewis, Roxanne (Jerry) Dahlke, 9 Grandchildren and 4 Great-Grandchildren, and his Nieces and Nephews, and Cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Inez and Clarence Lewis, two sisters Geraldine (Arthur) Pederson and Janice (Blake) Peterson. His Aunts and Uncles, and several beloved cousins.
