ALVIN E. GRAMS (April 7, 1930- October 4, 2024)

Alvin Edwin Grams, 94, of Two Harbors passed away on October 4, 2024, at Barross Cottages. Alvin was born April 7, 1930 to Lydia Grams in Crown, MN. Later as a child he moved from the family farm in Crown to Anoka, MN where he grew up and attended school. As a young man, Al attended barber school in Minneapolis, MN. A request was made at the school for a barber needed in Two Harbors, so after graduating Al set out on an adventure, moving to Two Harbors in 1951. He eventually purchased the business that became known as “Al’s Barber Shop” on First Avenue. It was there that he met a young beautician, Lorraine Birkland, who owned the beauty shop next door. They married on June 19, 1954, and were married for 67 years. Al eventually sold the barber shop and went to work for the US Postal Service where he was employed as a letter carrier, retiring in 1992. in Crown to Anoka, MN where he grew up

Al was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and golfing. He also enjoyed spending the winters in southwest Florida with his wife and time with family in the summers at the cabin on White Lake.

Al is preceded in death by his mother; his wife, Lorraine; his twin brother, Melvin Grams; and siblings, Darlene Ford, and Duane and Richard Paulson.

He is survived by his daughter, LeAnna (Kevin) Hudson of Duluth, MN; and son, Dan (Janet) Grams of Cambridge, MN; three grandchildren, Nick (Amanda) Hudson, Ben Hudson, and Natalie Hudson; and two great-grandchildren, Myla and Ella Hudson.

Al’s family would like to thank the staff of the Barross Cottages and St. Luke’s Hospice for their care in his final days.

A private grave-side service will be held for family at a later date.
