Senator Hauschild Invites Former William Kelley Student Sarah Maxwell to Testify at Senate Education Hearing

Maxwell Provides Testimony on Lake County Ambulance EMT School Program

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Monday’s meeting of the Senate Education Policy Committee hearing began with testimony from a cross-section of Minnesota students, including Former William Kelley High School student Sarah Maxwell.

Sarah’s testimony focused on her participation in a program at Lake Superior School District that allowed her to become a certified Emergency Medical Technician.

“During my senior year, I was offered the opportunity by Lake County Ambulance Services EMT in the Schools program. I finished the program in November 2025, and since then have become a state and nationally registered EMT, and was just hired as an EMT by Lake County Ambulance Service,” said Sarah. “I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity, and don’t know where I would be without this program. I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity and for being able to speak with you today.”

The pilot program is a partnership between Lake County Ambulance Service, Lake Superior School District, and the State of Minnesota, which was chief authored by Senator Grant Hauschild (DFL-Hermantown). Following Sarah’s testimony, Senator Hauschild praised Sarah for her participation in this program, which has now allowed her to become an EMT with Cook County.

“We face a lot of challenges in rural ambulance services in Greater Minnesota, but students like Sara and the people at Lake Superior School District are helping find a solution,” said Sen. Hauschild. “I’m grateful to Sarah, her fellow classmates, and the people doing the work every day to help find the solutions we need to these challenges.”
