LAKE SUPERIOR SCHOOL DISTRICT 381 MEETING MINUTES

The regular meeting of the School Board of Lake Superior Independent School District No. 381 was held Tuesday, October 10, 2023, 6:00 p.m. in the Community Room, Two Harbors High School, 1640 Highway 2, Two Harbors, Minnesota.

1.0 Chair Tiboni called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

2.0 MEMBERS PRESENT: Mark Broin, Harriet Hagedorn, Jeff Radle, Al Ring­er, Tracy Tiboni, Steve VanHouse

MEMBERS ABSENT: Dean Korri

ALSO, PRESENT: Superintendent, Jay Belcastro; Principal, Brett Archer; Prin­cipal, Julie Benson; Assistant Principal, Gina Kleive; Principal, Dan Johnson; Business Manager, Tanner Spawn; Community Education Director, Bruce Remme; Recording Secretary, Debbie Peterson

3.0 APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA

Motion by Hagedorn, second by Radle to approve the agenda as presented. (Carried Unanimously)

Motion by Radle, second by Ringer to approve the consent agenda: Minutes: September 12, 2023, Personnel: Approve the following hires: Fordes Lodin, Para, THHS, 9.18.23; Katie Kelley, Bus Driver, TH; Crynessa Ylatupa, Para, WKS; Erin O’Brien, 4’s Preschool Teach­er, WKS. 4.2.2. Motion by Ringer, second by Radle to approve payment of the September bills in the amount of $6,307,345.36. (Car­ried Unanimously)

7.1.2 Approve Electronic Fund Transfers ~ September 2023:

Motion by Ringer, second by Hagedorn to approve the Sep­tember Electronic Fund Trans­fers: (09/15/23) $650,000.00 to the payroll account; (09/15/23) $200,00.00 to the general ac­count; (09/18/23) $138,118.53 to general account; (09/18/23) $1,573,170.99,00 School Building Bonds to the gen­eral account; (09/18/23) $3,995,789.95 School Building Bonds to the general account; (09/29/23) $603,000.00 to the payroll account; (09/29/23) $500,000.00 to the general ac­count. 9.1 Approval to Solicit Bids for the Bus Garages, ICS:

Motion by Ringer, second by Hage­dorn to approve ICS to solicit bids for the bus garages in Two Harbors and Silver Bay for renovation. (Car­ried Unanimously)

9.2 Testing Data:

District testing data was presented and discussed. (No Action Taken)

9.3 MSBA Model Policies #722, #528, #903, #521, #530 ~ 3rd and Final

 Reading:

Motion by Hagedorn, second by Radle to approve MSBA Policy up­dates. (Carried Unanimously)

9.4 Approve Recommendation to Hire: Ryan Viney, Asst. Head Cus­todian, WKS; Lindsey Jaeger, LTS Teacher, Minne.; Greg Twiford, Asst. Mechanic, TH Bus Garage:

Motion by Hagedorn, second by Broin, to approve the hires listed above. (Carried Unanimously)

9.5 Approve Addition of 1.0 FTE, Special Education Teacher, THHS:

Motion by Korri, second by Radle to approve the additional Special Ed­ucation Teacher, THHS. (Carried Unanimously)

10.0 REPORTS:

Mr. Remme updated the Board on Community Ed activities.

10.2 WKS Principal & Curriculum Director, Dan Johnson:

Mr. Johnson updated the Board WKS activities and curriculum.

Mr. Archer updated the Board on Minnehaha activities.

10.4 Two Harbors High School & DAC ~ Julie Benson:

Ms. Benson updated the Board on THHS activities.

10.5 Superintendent Jay Belcastro:

Superintendent Belcastro updated the Board on District activities.

11.0 ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Hagedorn, second by Ring­er to adjourn the meeting at 7:27 p.m. (Carried Unanimously)
