The Knife River Heritage & Cultural Center will kick off the community’s holiday season with its annual “Trees, Trains. Traditions” event that coincides with the North Shore Scenic Rail road’s “Christmas Tree Train.”
The family-centered event is free and takes place Saturday, November 29, at the Heritage Center on Marina Road in Knife River. It will start about 10:15AM with the arrival of the Christmas Tree Train from Duluth. The train will bring about 200 riders to select a Christmas tree from a lot filled with trees, wreaths and garland provided by the Hanel family of Two Harbors.
Selected trees are tagged, wrapped and placed on a flatcar for the return to Duluth. Families can then drive up to the flatcar and claim their tree.
Hot food and beverages will be available at the depot from Larsmont Trading Post. Live holiday music will be provided. Area locals can purchase trees from 11:30 AM – 1PM after riders from Duluth have made their selections.
