‘March Campaign’ Helps Food Shelves Weather Unprecedented Need

The March Campaign is an annual campaign of Minnesota FoodShare, which is the largest grassroots food and fund drive throughout Minnesota. The March Campaign brings together nonprofits, businesses, faith communities, and individuals to help stock and support the capacity of nearly 300 food shelves statewide. The March Campaign began back in 1982 as a way to restock metro food shelves but as the need became more evident, it became a statewide initiative the following year and is now in its 43rd evolution.

Supporting your local food shelf means more now than ever, as food shelves statewide are seeing record-setting needs. In 2023 Minnesotans in need of assistance made an astonishing 7.5 million visits to food shelves throughout the state. The Two Harbors Area Food Shelf is experiencing this increased need at an exceptional rate as well. In the past six months we have seen an average of more than 250 visits to our program each month, and in 2023 we saw a total of over 2,600 visits which was a 58% increase compared to 2022.

Please consider making a financial contribution or a donation of non-perishable items today. Financial donations can go even further, thanks to partnerships with our regional food bank which allows for greater purchasing power. Financial gifts made between February 26th to April 6th also have the power to be matched through the FoodFund. For the Two Harbors Area Food Shelf, the March Campaign will culminate at this year’s Music to Feed the Soul concert, hosted by the United Church on March 24th at 3:00 PM. This is a wonderful annual event featuring amazing local artists and acts that come together to raise money to support hunger relief in our area.

For more information about donating, please contact the Two Harbors Food Shelf at 218-391-8191 or visit their website at www.thfoodshelf.org to learn more.
