In the realm of high school sports, few honors shine as brightly as being chosen for the All-Star Game. This annual event gathers the most outstanding senior athletes, showcasing their skills on a grand stage. Zach Bentler, a senior at Two Harbors High School, has not only earned this coveted spot but has also emerged as a notable player set to represent his school and community.
To be considered for the All-Star game, players must be nominated by their coaches. Head
Coach Tom Nelson, recognizing his excellence on the field, nominated Zach this year. He then was entered into a pool of candidates that spans the state of Minnesota. Coaches from various regions cast their votes. Zach was chosen, along with 88 other seniors in Minnesota, and will join the North team.
In collaboration with the Minnesota Football Coaches Association (MFCA) and the Minnesota Vikings, the All-Star Game at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota will kick off on December 2nd at 1:00 PM. Attending the 50th Annual MFCA All-Star game is a testament to the dedication and skill that Zach brings to the field.
The defensive lineman has committed to playing for the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) Bulldogs Football team. Reflecting on his decision, he shared, “After all the recruiting process and building a relationship with the UMD staff, I felt it was right to go there and play football and go to school.” While he’s currently undecided on his major, he is leaning towards pursuing a degree in accounting.
Zach expresses gratitude towards his coaches, parents, and teammates who have played instrumental roles in his journey. Despite the thrill of the All-Star Game, he acknowledges that he will miss the camaraderie forged during bus rides with his team during his high school career. The sense of community, both within his team and the larger town, has been a driving force for Zach throughout his high school football career.
When asked about any nervousness, he simply stated, “I’m kind of excited to get down and play.” His commitment to representing his team and community reflects the true spirit of high school sportsmanship. “I would’ve liked to be there with my team,” he said. “But I still get to represent my team and town playing in the All-Star Game.”
As he takes the field on December 2nd, Zach carries the pride of Two Harbors High School with him, symbolizing the culmination of years of hard work and passion for the game.
Congratulations to Zach Bentler for securing a spot on the All-Star team, for committing to UMD, and to all those who supported him along the way!
