Independence Day has come and gone already, but there is still plenty of summer to enjoy! The Silver Bay Public Library has some fun events scheduled for July and August. And yes, even with construction, the library will remain open. Patrons can park on Banks and come in the sidewalk from that side.
Every Monday in July and August there will be a storytime for children at 11a.m.. In July and on August 12 and 26, the storytime will be hosted by the library. August 5 and 19 LOTS (Learning Opportunities Through Stories) will be hosting their last two sessions.
Reading Pals, an intergenerational reading time, will be held at North Shore Area Partners July 23. Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center will be hosting Reading Pals August 6, and Carefree Living August 20. Pre-registration is required for the Wolf Ridge session.
Black Beach Story Time is held on Wednesdays at 6pm. Children and families are welcome to gather at Black Beach to read stories, do a craft or activity, and enjoy s’mores.
The summer reading program is in full swing, so make sure to sign up and check in weekly to earn points towards a free book. “Spice Up Your Life” for July is dill, and samples can be picked up July 15- 19. August’s spice is paprika, and will be available August 19-23. Stay and make magic scratch bookmarks will be available July 22-26, take and make plush bears will be available August 5-9, and stay and make pencil cases to decorate will be available August 12-16.
The Strider Bike program, designed to “build confidence and grow a love for biking” for kids will be held on Thursday, July 18, 25, and August 1. Safety equipment and bikes are provided, and the instructor, Phil Huston, is a certified stride bike instructor. This program is free, and registration is required.
Friday, July 12 Will Hale and the Tadpole Parade will be coming to the Silver Bay Public Library. Starting at 10:30, kids of all ages can “clap, dance, and sing” with “full time kid’s musician” Will Hale in this interactive concert.
Saturday, July 13 is the annual Friends of the Silver Bay Public Library Book Sale, held both inside the library, as well as in a tent outside the library during Bay Days. The sale will be held from 9am to 3pm. Hardcover books will be $1.00, paperback $0.50, and rare/ treasured books $5. Do you have books looking for a new home or need to make space for book treasures you might find at the sale? Friends of the Silver Bay Public Library are accepting book and DVD donations July 8-12.
July 17 Jackie Fallon will bring her presentation on peregrine falcons to the library, and live birds will be brought in for an up-close look at these amazing raptors.
To finish out the summer, on August 22 a Celtic Music program will be held. The duo Willow Brae, formed by Andrea Stern on Celtic harps and Laura MacKenzie on wooden flutes, concertina, whistles, and various bagpipes, will “express the warm resonance of traditional music plus the joy and spark of Irish and Scottish dance tunes.”
