The Silver Bay Mariners closed out a successful season with a 12‑8 record, a notable accomplishment for a roster made up largely of underclassmen. The group showed steady growth throughout the spring, often relying on young players in key positions and still managing to stay competitive in a tough section.
The Mariners opened postseason play with a 2‑0 loss to Barnum, but the early setback didn’t linger. Silver Bay responded with one of its strongest offensive outings of the year, defeating Cromwell‑Wright 15‑5 to stay alive. The momentum carried into a rematch with Barnum, where the Mariners came out on top 6‑4 to advance in the bracket.
Their run ended in Hibbing on June 2 against Cherry. The Tigers had handed Silver Bay a 17‑5 loss in mid‑May, and they repeated that performance with a 17‑1 win. Despite the tough finish, the Mariners’ postseason push reflected the progress they made over the course of the season. Head Coach Ward Wallin noted the team’s resilience, especially given how many players were step‑ ping into varsity roles for the first time. Several athletes made significant jumps in confidence and consistency, which showed in the end‑of‑season awards:
– Top Defensive Player: Grady Hoff
– Top Offensive Player: MaCoy Williams
– MVP: MaCoy Williams
– Mr. K Award (most strikeouts): Grady Hoff
– Inspirational Teammate: Westin Sve
– Most Improved Player: Graylan Sinderman
– Rookie of the Year: Max Klemmer
– Comeback Player of the Year: Carson Kindstrand
The Mariners were also well‑represented in postseason honors. MaCoy Williams, Grady Hoff, and Levi Cook earned All‑Conference recognition. Hoff and Bryten Otterblad were named to the All‑District 7A Team.
With a young core returning and a season of experience behind them, Silver Bay enters next year with momentum and a clearer sense of what this group is capable of.
