The North Shore Storm Peewee A team took first place at the recent Hibbing/Chisholm Tournament that took place over three days at the Hibbing Memorial Arena and the Fairground Arena from December 15-17.
The games were a bit different for the young hockey players as they played by District 12 rules. Where the team is used to fifteen-minute periods, the tournament games periods were seventeen minutes. Penalties were two minutes instead of the normal one and a half minutes.
The Two Harbors Youth Hockey Facebook Page touts, “They proved they could handle the challenge. Nice Work!”
Their first game of the tournament was a tight one against Hibbing/ Chisholm, ending in a 5-4 score with the Storm in the lead. Previously in the season, the Storm tied against Hibbing/Chisolm. Up next, on the same day of the tournament, the team lost to Armstrong-Cooper 9-5.
They came back raring to go against Duluth East the following day, as evidenced by the whopping 7-3 score. The team had played Duluth East earlier in the season and won by one-goal.
Later that same day, the team would take on Waseca. Many goals were scored during the second game on Saturday, but the Storm scored more. The game ended at 12-7.
On Sunday, the team would once again take on Duluth East for the championship. They scored ten goals against Duluth East’s three and took home the trophy.
The big win came after a seven-game losing streak that began in early December for the team. The new momentum will hopefully propel them to great success going forward into the season.
Congratulations, North Shore Storm Peewees!
