As the year drew to a close, local basketball teams geared up for their Holiday Tournaments in the final days of December.
On December 27th, the Two Harbors girls’ basketball team opened the Hoops for Hope Tournament with 64-27 victory over Cook County.
In their second game, held the following day, the Agates faced the Ely Timberwolves in a closer matchup. Despite a strong effort, Two Harbors fell just short, losing 46-49. This performance, however, demonstrated significant improvement compared to their earlier meeting with Ely in November, when they lost 56-30.
Looking ahead, the Agates are preparing for a stretch of five home games, beginning with a matchup against Barnum on December 30th. Meanwhile, Cook County took on McGregor on January 3rd.
The Silver Bay Mariners are also gearing up for a series of home games, starting with Carlton/Wrenshall on December 30th, followed by Cromwell-Wright on January 2nd.
The Two Harbors boys’ basketball team made waves at the Holiday Tournament with an impressive 77-71 victory over the previously undefeated Ely Timberwolves on December 27th. The Timberwolves rebounded with a resounding 111-63 win against Bigfork the following day, perhaps fueled by frustration from their loss to the Agates. The team wrapped up the tournament with a hard-fought 62-45 loss to Greenway on Saturday.
Cook County also had a strong showing in the tournament. They dominated International Falls, 92-48, in their first game but also fell to Greenway, 93-43, the next day.
Two Harbors hosted Cook County on Thursday, January 2nd, followed by a matchup against Cloquet on January 3rd. Results will be reported in an upcoming issue.
