Keeping the North Shore Going: Two Local Brothers Take Over Grand Marais’ Only Portable Restroom Business

Local brothers Trevor and Tanner Berglund have bought and are operating the portable restroom business that G&G Septic Service started and built in Grand Marais. The two young men have been working in the business since April this year. The purchase was completed on June 4, 2026.

G&G Septic Service, LLC has deep roots in Cook County. The Grescyk family will continue to operate its septic maintenance and repair service. It has proudly and effectively served the needs of the people of Cook County for three generations.

The Grescyks were looking to downsize, and the Berglunds saw a critical service that needed to stay in local hands. They’ve named their new business T&T Portable Toilet Services and have rebranded all of the portable biffys with a new logo and phone numbers. In addition to purchasing the existing rental agreements from G&G, they bought a couple of hundred biffys, two pump/service trucks, and one flatbed truck for delivery and pickup.

In addition to rental toilets for crowded summer festivals, packed trailheads, and highway construction crews, T&T also sells and services portable toilets. Because so many properties up the Gunflint, out by Hovland, or tucked into the woods along the shore are seasonal, off-grid, or operating under strict county environmental permits, landowners often buy their own portable units. T&T operates under a formal service agreement system with these owners to ensure they comply with county public health ordinances. Under Cook County environmental health rules, T&T’s maintenance agreements stipulate that a permitted private biffy cannot go longer than six months without a professional pumpout.

Trevor graduated from Cook County High School in 2020 and went on to Lake Superior College, where he studied automotive engineering. After graduating, he moved to Stevens Point, WI, for a job with a large company. A couple of years later, he returned to Grand Marais, and for the last two years, he’s been working for Johnson Brothers out of Hovland.

Tanner graduated from CCHS in the Spring of 2022 and immediately went to work for KGM Contractors, a heavy highway and earthwork construction company headquartered in Angora, Minnesota. He worked for two years on the KGM’s projects across the state. For the last two years, the brothers worked side by side in the woods for Johnson Brothers, setting the stage for their business partnership.

The Berglunds were raised with a hard-working, responsible, entrepreneurial ethic. They recognize the great reputation of the business they’ve bought and are focused on timely service and keeping their equipment clean, which they call pristine. “It’s all about first impressions,” Tanner said.

Asked what being in business for himself is like, Tanner said, “I like it. I’ve always wanted to start a business.” Trevor added, “It feels pretty good; the phone never stops ringing.”

Down the road, T&T hopes to grow the business and eventually hire employees. In the meantime, when you see a T&T truck servicing, delivering, or picking up a portable restroom, one of the Berglund brothers will be doing the work.

The tech-savvy Biffy Bros are setting up electronic record-keeping for inventory control, accounting, and billing services. A website is in the works, but sits on the back burner until business slows down this fall. Until then, you may reach T&T by phone at 218-370-7991 or 218-370-8318, where your call will be answered by one of the cheerful, professional Biffy Bros.

The portable restroom business may seem unglamorous, but it is essential. It is the definition of a behind-the-scenes business that keeps our area functioning cleanly without ruining the water table. Whether you call them porta-potties, sanitation units, portable restrooms, or outhouses, you’ll never go wrong here on the Scandinavian Riviera calling them biffys.
