(Silver Bay, Minn.) North Shore Area Partners (NSAP) was awarded a $5,000 grant from Boreal Waters Community Foundation, formerly the Duluth Superior Area Foundation, to expand their transportation program in the Silver Bay area. The grant will be used to provide rides and increase access for adults aged 60 plus to local events, medical appointments, social activities and grocery shopping.
“We know that providing affordable transportation for older adults allows them to lead a healthier life, and age in place better,” said Kelly Looby, executive director at NSAP. “We are excited for this opportunity to help people maintain independence and stay in their home for as long as possible.”
The program relies on volunteer drivers to provide transportation. To use the service, participants must be able to walk unassisted with only the use of a walker or cane and be able to get in and out of a vehicle without help. A notice of two business days (48 hours) is required. Rides may be limited due to volunteer availability.
To request a ride or become a valued volunteer, contact Stacey Hohman, Program & Volunteer Coordinator at NSAP, at 218- 353-1391.
