Grand Marais, Minn. (07/27/2026)— University of Minnesota Extension is offering a six week program called Community Climate Leaders this fall in Grand Marais. The program is open to anyone interested in learning more about the impacts of climate change in Minnesota, and finding ways to take action locally to build resilient communities.
Participants will improve their climate communication skills, discover practical actions to take, and learn about climate justice and leadership.
The course also helps people develop a “stepping stone project” to create real plans for climate resilience in their own towns. Additionally, those who sign up will receive course materials and a copy of The Climate Action Handbook by Dr. Heidi Roop.
The program starts on September 28th, but interested individuals must register by September 14th. Registration is available online at z.umn.edu/ClimateLeader. To ensure everyone can participate, the program uses a sliding fee scale.
The course includes two in-person meetings at the Cook County Community Center, two virtual meetings, and five online modules to complete. Food will be served during the in-person sessions. No prior background in climate science is needed—just a desire to learn and to help your community thrive!
