Lake Superior Community Theatre (LSCT) will finally return this coming spring to the Silver Bay’s William M. Kelley Auditorium stage with Peter Tarsi’s 2008 drama “Tracks”.
Tracks takes place on a well-traveled subway station where a group of strangers meet. Soon they learn there is no way out of the station, and an unfortunate truth is told to them. They reason the train leaving for one platform must be bound for Heaven and the other for………(come and find out). The two track options motivate the characters toward introspection and how they could have lived their lives differently, some experiencing guilt, others not so much.
“Despite the ‘twilight zone’ situation of this quirky play & the serious subject matter, there will be humor and dance sprinkled in by Duluth hip-hop/jazz choreographer Legacy Frost,” according to play director Paul Deaner. “Soundman Corey Hulst’s design will enhance the mood and energy of the show, and veteran costumer & makeup artist Rachel Drew-Thun of Silver Bay will add her f lair and edge to the production.”
Duluth scenic designer & painter Ann Gumpper returns to create the subway platform scene and will lead the traditional scenic painting experience on the Kelley stage during the January 8-11, 2026 time frame.
Silver Bay community leader & summer children’s play production assistant Michelle Ketola will stage manage the cast, currently at 14 and consisting mostly of Kelley students and three adults. Some of the characters will move and dance to Corey Hulst’s jam. Deaner expects the cast number, which he’s been recruiting behind the scenes, to grow with additional non-speaking extras, aka Subterranians. “We’re still talent searching for young adult movers & dancers if you’d like to be in the show,” he said. “Give us a call.”
Following three seasons without a show due to Covid 19 and a cast member health issue, LSCT returned in 2023 with The Diary of Anne Frank. In 2024 Deaner directed his play Send in the Minnesota High School League One Act Play Festival. This past spring’s LSCT planned production of the comedy/drama Up The Down Staircase was canceled due to cast shortage (15 students auditioned, but 22 were needed). Deaner’s Tracks recruitment efforts were primarily aimed at performers who lost out last year when “Staircase” was canceled.
“It’s good to be back on track,” he said. (Pun intended)
Tracks opens April 9 for seven performances through April 19. Each one hour show will be followed by a cast & audience party in the lobby.
Tickets go on sale approximately February 1st via lsct.online, House Manager Sue Churack @ 218-220 9942, or in the performance lobby. For additional information, contact Paul @ 218-353-7509 (no text), or pl.deaner@gmail.com
