The North Shore Journal Welcomes New Reporter Sarah Simon

Hello Northshore Journal Readers,

I am beyond excited to be joining the NSJ team. My husband and I recently moved into a cabin near Brimson, after having lived in Esko, MN for over 20 years. “Up Nort” is one of the most beautiful parts of our country and we feel so blessed to be able to plant roots here.

Outside of the amazing sights and the myriad of activities, my favorite part about this area is the kindness of those who live here. When I tell others I’m a new resident, the response is always “Welcome to the neighborhood!”

I would especially like to call out JS/SS and BS/JS for taking initiative to come over to introduce themselves within days of us moving into our new home. We’re so lucky to have you as neighbors. (Those spicy green beans are delectable. Can we have some more?)

I’m thrilled for the opportunity to engage with all of you as I attend and research community and sporting events. I can’t wait to share with our readers all the wonderful things occurring around our neighborhoods.

As a lifelong hockey fan, I’m especially interested in checking out the Sonju Arena and watching games next season. For now, I’ll focus on springtime sports, since Spring has finally sprung in Minnesota, and the approaching happenings all over our towns.

You may recognize me out and about wearing a bandanna. Please do not hesitate to introduce yourself and tell me everything you love about living here. I want to know about the biggest fish you caught in our many lakes and the best way to fillet it. (I caught a lunker and learned what the word lunker meant, on the same day.) I want to hear you brag about your children and their accomplishments. I want to know about your concerns, ideas, and (what the kids are saying these days) “all the things”. Also, please tell me the best place to get a burger!

Thank you for welcoming us into your communities. Looking forward to meeting you soon.

Sarah K. Simon
