New Business in Duluth Assists Those Looking For Safe Care Solutions for the Elderly in Our Region

Locating appropriate care and assisted living facilities can be challenging in our sparsely populated and aging communities on the North Shore. A new business that just opened in Duluth is here to alleviate the challenges of finding appropriate care for older people in our community. Whether it’s in-home care, independent living support, assisted living, or memory care, Assisted Living Locators, a nationwide senior placement and referral service, is dedicated to providing solutions. They have just announced the opening of their Duluth, MN franchise this week.

Senior Living Advisor Kailee Olson, a Duluth resident, owns the franchise. Olson has over 12 years of experience in the senior care industry, including roles in assisted living management, care management, and hospice.

Olson earned her bachelor’s degree in 2013 from the University of Wisconsin Superior and a Master’s in Health and Human Services Administration from St. Mary’s.

After acquiring the franchise, Olson completed a week of training at the firm’s Scottsdale, AZ, headquarters, followed by 13 weeks of virtual training. She is a certified senior advisor and has completed a course in dementia training.

Olson is married to a small business owner, and she likes managing her own business and getting out in the community. “I love working with senior citizens, I love assisted living services, so I felt I was a good fit for Assisted Living Locators,” she said.

Olson is working hard to get her business up and running. She has already identified a couple of potential employees and hopes to hire additional staff as it grows.

On her website, Senior Living Advisor Kailee Olson expresses her commitment to seniors and their families, “I’m committed to helping seniors and their families find the best care options. My goal is to provide a compassionate and personalized approach, ensuring the highest quality of life in their chosen living environments.”

Assisted Living Locators offers no-cost guidance to find quality options. It serves the communities of Duluth, Superior, Cloquet, Esko, Two Harbors, Silver Bay, Moose Lake, and the Iron Range.

Olson can meet with seniors and their families virtually or in person. Her services are free of charge.

Assisted Living Locators services begin with a simple and user-friendly online assessment tool. This tool is designed to gain insight into appropriate senior housing for an individual, making finding the proper care more accessible and efficient.

Following the online assessment, Olson conducts an in person interview. This interview, which can be conducted by phone, video technology, or in person, is a crucial step in understanding the senior’s needs and preferences and how to best serve them.

She then manages tours of qualified and vetted home health, hospice, assisted living, memory care, and adult family homes.

Once a suitable arrangement is found, Olson assists with the moving-in process for assisted living communities and skilled nursing facilities. This includes handling paperwork, coordinating with the facility, and ensuring a smooth transition for the senior.

Assisted Living Locators offers comprehensive support through its network of leading regional home care agencies. This network includes dedicated local resources for seniors and families such as eldercare attorneys, skilled home health, moving companies, and hospice.

Olson guides the entire decision-making process.

“Seniors and their families need a trusted advisor to help them navigate what can be an overwhelming amount of information,” said Kailee Olson. “Our goal is to assist families in choosing appropriate care options for their loved ones, to save time, decrease stress, and to provide peace of mind.”

Founded in 2003, Assisted Living Locators is one of the nation’s largest senior placement and referral services. With more than 150 franchisees in 39 states and the District of Columbia, local senior care advisors provide a no-cost service to help find quality care for their clients.

Typically these “about me” pages include a list of academic achievements (I have none) and positions held (I have had many, but who really cares about those?) So, in the words of the late Admiral James Stockwell, “Who am I? Why am I here?” I’m well into my seventh decade on this blue planet we call home. I’m a pretty successful husband, father, and grandfather, at least in my humble opinion. My progeny may disagree. We have four children and five grandchildren. I spent most of my professional life in the freight business. At the tender age of 40, early retirement beckoned and we moved to Grand Marais. A year after we got here, we bought and operated the Cook County News Herald, a weekly newspaper in Grand Marais. A sharp learning curve for a dumb freight broker to become a newspaper editor and publisher. By 1999 the News Herald was an acquisition target for a rapidly consolidating media market. We sold our businesses and “retired” again, buying a winter retreat in Nevada. In the fall of 2016, we returned to Grand Marais and bought a house from old friends of ours on the ridge overlooking Lake Superior. They were able to move closer to family and their Mexico winter home. And we came home to what we say is our last house. I’m a strong believer in the value of local newspapers--both online and those you can wrap a fish in. I write a weekly column and a couple of feature stories for the Northshore Journal. I’m most interested in writing about the everyday lives of local people and reporting on issues of importance to them.
