In a recent meeting, the Lake County Housing and Redevelopment Authority reviewed a number of projects that are in various stages of development.
The project house on 4th Avenue is nearing completion and plans are underway for an open house next month. As a reminder to readers, the project house is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, single family home that is located on property left vacant after the old Two Harbors High School was demolished. When completed, the house will sell at market rate and money from the sale will be returned to the Housing Trust Fund for use on a subsequent building project.
The HRA Board voted to move forward with a proposal to enter into an agreement with Lake County for a property transfer of land in the SEGOG area near Battaglia Blvd. and 14th Avenue. The land in question will be used for a multi-family development consisting of 75 units of mixed income housing. Funding is being sought and it is reported that IRRR is excited about being involved in the project. The complex, as it is currently proposed, will include covered, heated parking and will offer seniors the convenience of less maintenance and upkeep, for those who are interested in selling their current homes. 2% of the units in the development would be ADA (Americans With Disabilities) accessible and all units will have access to elevators.
The Home Rehabilitation Program is slated to begin in July. The Lake County HRA will provide up to $10,000 to eligible homeowners to help with fixing health and safety issues at their owner occupied, single family residence. The goal of this program is to provide assistance to homeowners who have limited income and resources for upkeep. There is a simple application and approval process for interested homeowners. Eligible projects include ADA accessibility needs, lead paint abatement, electrical, plumbing and heating repairs, roofing and foundation repairs, window, exterior door and insulation replacement, repairing missing siding or paint, and replacing failing sewer and water connections. Interested applicants must meet household income limits, have a work plan approved by the Lake County HRA and work with a licensed contractor.
