Six young bowlers representing the Silver Bowl bowling alley in Silver Bay will compete in the Pepsi/Storm State Bowling Tournament the weekend of May 3 to 5. The competition will take place at Garden Center Lanes in Alexandria, MN.
The six bowlers were among the 18 kids who participated in junior leagues at Silver Bowl bowling this season. They are:
Keenan Fischer finished first in the Pepsi and Storm U10 district competitions.
James Russell took first-place honors in the U18 Storm districts.
Donny Melander came in first in the U8 Storm and Pepsi districts.
Brielle Fischer took first place in the U10 Storm girls competition.
Emsley Fischer won first place in the girl’s U15 at the Pepsi and Storm events.
Emilio Kreeger-Buus finished in a tie for first place in the U12 Storm tournament.
Each of these young people won district-level tournaments held last month and will compete in the state tournaments.
“We had 18 kids total in this year’s leagues,” said Silver Bowl owner Logan Fischer. “We also had three groups of adult bowlers in state tournaments this year,” he added.
Silver Bowl is the only public bowling alley between Thunder Bay and Duluth and from Lake Superior to Virginia. It is open from late September to the end of April each year, and its hours are from 4:00 pm to close Wednesday through Saturday.
The business closes for the summer months to perform maintenance on the machines and property.
“We want to keep community bowling going,” Logan said. “And we try to attract new people to the sport.”
Logan and his wife, Joleen, also operate All In One Fitness and Tanning in Silver Bay, and a real estate rental company the offers long-term housing rentals for residents on the shore.
