Silver Bay and Finland area parents and caregivers with children are invited to come hear stories and share in fun activities. LOTS is a program of the North Shore Collaborative whose board is made up of representatives from local schools, counties, public and mental health providers, tribes, corrections, and early childhood coalitions. Their mission is to strengthen families, honor diverse cultures, and improve access to community resources and opportunities for children.
LOTS is a FREE early literacy program for children. Pre-registration is not required and you do not need to attend every session. At each session, leaders will read a featured book, have a short discussion, and then the children get to take the featured book home. Board books will be given to infants and toddlers. Some of the books selected this year are Barnyard Banter, Caps for Sale, Dig, Dump, Roll, Splat the Cat Back to School, Peek a Who and Napping House Book. Each session will also typically offer an activity or craft, along with playtime.
LOTS is open to anyone and registration is not required. It is on a first come, first serve basis. If you miss a session, you should be able to get books from the previous week. Last year, over 1,200 books were distributed to kids! Older children are encouraged to attend. They can listen to the story, and afterwards select a more age-appropriate book from a bin.
Since each location is offering the same books, it is being asked that you pick up at one location only. If you show up at a different location, there’s a chance that a book will be repeated.
Sessions at the Silver Bay Public Library go from 10:30am to 11:30am and are scheduled for June 5th, 12th, 19th, 26, July 31st, August 7th and 14th.
Sessions will start at 8:30am to 9:30am at the Clair Nelson Community Center in Finland on June 5th, 12th, 19, 26, July 31st, August 7th and 14th.
