John “Jay” Wilbur Oling, age 86, of Duluth, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Viewcrest Health Center.
Jay was born April 28, 1940, in Duluth, Minnesota to Wilbur and Margaret Oling. He graduated from Two Harbors High School in 1959. On September 17, 1960, Jay married Carol Jean Netzel, and together they raised four children in Two Harbors, MN, where he was a lifelong resident.
Jay was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting, and he was a lifetime member of the Two Harbors Moose Club. He also thoroughly enjoyed traveling across the United States in the RV with his wife, Carol.
Jay was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; his parents, Wilbur and Margaret Oling; his brother, Charlie Oling; and his brothers-in-law, James and Richard Netzel and James Harris.
He is survived by his children, Candice Fuhr, Kurt (Cheryl) Oling, Holly (Jim) Graham, and Heather (Kevin) Brouse; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his siblings, Sandy Andler, Suzie Walz, and Lee (Kay) Oling.
A Visitation will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Liturgy Outside Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. A graveside service will take place immediately following the liturgy. A celebration of life will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Two Harbors Moose Lodge, located at 709 1st Avenue, Two Harbors, MN 55616.
