Silver Bay Mariners

Silver Bay closed out what had been a steady, competitive regular season with a tough stretch of three straight losses. The Mariners fell 17‑5 at home to Cherry on May 18, then traveled to Moose Lake on May 20 for a long day of back‑to‑back games against Cook County and Moose Lake‑Willow River.

The opener against Cook County turned into a low‑scoring grind. The Vikings managed the only runs of the game and held on for a 2‑0 win. It was a reversal of their early‑season meeting in Silver Bay, when the Mariners came out on top 13‑10.

The second game of the day proved even more difficult. Moose Lake‑Willow River controlled the pace from the start and handed Silver Bay a 13‑2 loss.

The Mariners finished the regular season at 10‑6. Their Class A Section playoff game at Barnum wrapped after press time.

Cook County Vikings

Cook County picked up a late‑sea‑ son win with their 2‑0 victory over Silver Bay on May 20, closing their regular season on a high note. Earlier that same day, the Vikings were part of a high‑scoring matchup against Moose Lake‑Willow River, falling 19‑12 but putting up their largest run total of the season.

Cook County moved into the Section 7A playoffs with a May 26 matchup against Mountain Iron‑Buhl, played after press time.

Two Harbors Agates

Two Harbors continued to build momentum in the final week of the regular season. The Agates opened with a 15‑1 win over McGregor on May 19, then carried that energy into a May 21 road game at Cromwell‑Wright, earning another victory.

Their final game came against a strong Ely team on May 22, where the Agates fell 8‑2.

Two Harbors entered the Class AA Section playoffs on May 26. They faced Pequot Lakes in Pine City after press time.

Cook County Vikings

Cook County’s postseason run began and ended on May 19 in the Section 7A playoffs. The Vikings faced a powerful Cherry lineup and fell 20‑4, closing their season.

Two Harbors Agates

Two Harbors opened the Class AA Section playoffs on May 19 in Proctor, taking on Aitkin. The Agates stayed in it throughout but came up short in an 11‑9 loss that ended their season.

Silver Bay Mariners

Silver Bay made the most of their early postseason opportunities. The Mariners hosted Ely in their first Class A Section playoff game and won 11‑1, a more decisive result than their narrow win over the Timberwolves earlier in May.

They returned to their home field on May 21 for a tight matchup with Cromwell‑Wright. The Cardinals edged out a 9‑8 win, despite Silver Bay having beaten them 20‑10 at the end of April.

Still alive in the bracket, the Mariners regrouped later that day and shut out Ely 14‑0 to stay in the mix.

Silver Bay advanced to face South Ridge on May 26 in Cloquet. That game finished after this week’s press deadline.

TRACK AND FIELD

Two Harbors delivered a strong showing at the Sub‑Section meet on May 20 in Esko. The Agate boys finished second, just three points out of first place. The girls’ team earned fifth in a competitive field. Two school records fell during the meet. The boys’ 4×400 relay team of Tommy DeChantal, Jace Gomez, Joshua Maxwell, and Carter Nelson set a new program mark with a time of 3:28.66, lowering the previous record set earlier this month.

The boys’ 4×200 relay team also rewrote the record book. Gomez, Cameron Poe‑Johnson, Maxwell, and Nelson posted a time of 1:32.05, edging out the former standard from 2025. A converted 1968 4×220 yard relay time remains faster on the books, but the school recognizes the events separately.
