Ice Storm Blasted the North Shore

The North Shore recently transformed into a scene straight out of Frozen. While the ice-covered trees looked like something out of a movie, the “glass” landscapes brought significant danger along with their beauty.

The weight of the ice proved too much for many trees, leading to widespread damage and fallen limbs across the region. Some of these fallen trees caused damage to property and downed power lines, leading to power outages stretching from Duluth throughout the NorthShore.

Utility crews worked tirelessly to restore power, though the relentless weather made their progress difficult. The storm didn’t just dim the lights; it brought daily life to a standstill:

• Business Disruptions: Many local businesses were forced to close, and employees stayed home as travel became impossible.

• Dangerous Roads: Residents described the highways as “skating rinks.” For those who braved the elements, the result was unfortunately a wave of accidents across the Northland.

The Cleanup Begins

The ice has melted, but the work is far from over. Fallen trees and debris still litter yards and roadsides throughout our small towns along the north shore. Power companies are staying busy this week, finishing up repairs on lines that were battered during the peak of the storm.
