Senator Grant Hauschild and Majority Leader Erin Murphy Visit Little Mariners Child Care Center and Host Childcare Roundtable in Silver Bay
(Silver Bay, Minn.) – On Thursday, Senator Grant Hauschild (DFL-Herman town) and Majority Leader Erin Murphy (DFL-St. Paul) visited the Little Mariners Child Care Center in Silver Bay. Thursday’s visit included a tour of the facility, meetings with staff, and was followed by a roundtable with parents and providers discussing the challenges surrounding childcare in Minnesota.
“High-quality, affordable child care is a critical need for working families and communities across the state, but it’s out of reach for far too many Minnesotans,” said Sen. Hauschild. “We’ve got to do more to make sure childcare is affordable for families and that childcare providers have the support they need to thrive. I want to thank Majority Leader Murphy for her leadership on this issue and for hearing directly from communities and families in the Northland.”
Senator Hauschild has been a strong proponent of legislation that would reduce childcare costs for families and support childcare providers, including his work on the Great Start Childcare Affordability bill. This legislation would support the childcare workforce while moving closer to a long-term goal of ensuring no family in Minnesota pays more than 7% of their income on childcare.
“Every family in Minnesota, no matter what part of the state you live in, should have access to affordable high-quality childcare,” said Majority Leader Murphy. “At a time of chaos in Washington, we are focused on delivering for Minnesotans and finding solutions that help every community and every family thrive.”
Little Mariners Child Care Center is driven by the mission to provide stable, high-quality childcare for families in our community in a safe, educational, and nurturing environment. Located in William Kelley School the center offers year-round care, Monday through Friday for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years and is licensed to care for 15 infants, 21 toddlers, & 16 preschoolers.
