Lake Superior School District 381 Meeting Minutes

The Organizational Meeting for the School Board of Lake Superior School District No. 381 was held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2023; District Office Commu­nity Room, 1640 Highway 2, Two Harbors, Minnesota.

1.0 Chair Tiboni called the meeting to order at 5:31 p.m. and led the audi­ence in the Pledge of Allegiance.

2.0 MEMBERS PRESENT Mark Broin, Harriet Hagedorn, Tracy Tiboni, Al Ringer, Steve VanHouse MEM­BERS ABSENT: Dean Korri, Jeff Radle

ALSO PRESENT: Superintendent Belcastro; Recording Secretary, Debbie Peterson, Tanner Spawn

3.0 Approval of Agenda: Motion by Hagedorn, second by VanHouse to approve the agenda. ~ (Carried Unanimously)

4.0 ORGANIZATION OF THE BOARD

4.1 Oath of Office (New Members and Re-Elected Members):

Tracy Tiboni and Steve Van­House read the Oath of Office.

4.2 Chair of the Board:

Chair Tiboni called for nomi­nations for the office of Chair of the Board. Member Tiboni was nominated for Chair of the Board. Chair Tiboni called for further nominations; hear­ing none, nominations were closed. Tracy Tiboni was the only candidate nominated and hereby declared elected by ac­clamation.

4.3 Vice-Chair of the Board:

Chair Tiboni called for nomi­nations for the office of Vice-Chair of the Board. Member Hagedorn was nominated for Vice-Chair. Chair Tiboni called for further nominations; hear­ing none, nominations were closed. Harriet Hagedorn was the only candidate nominated and hereby declared elected by acclamation.

4.4 Treasurer of the Board:

Chair Tiboni called for nomina­tions for the office of Treasurer of the Board. Member Ringer was nominated as Treasurer of the Board. Chair Tiboni called for further nominations; hear­ing none, nominations were closed. Al Ringer was the only candidate nominated and here­by declared elected by accla­mation.

4.5 Clerk of the Board:

Chair Tiboni called for nomina­tions for the office of Clerk of the Board. Member Dean Kor­ri was nominated as Clerk of the Board. Chair Tiboni called for further nominations; hear­ing none, nominations were closed. Dean Korri was the only candidate nominated and here­by nominated by acclamation.

Member Korri arrived at 5:35 p.m. and read the Oath of Of­fice.

5.0 ORGANIZATION OF BUSINESS

5.1 School Board Meeting Cal­endar for 2023: The Board reviewed the proposed 2023 meeting calendar. Motion by Korri, second by VanHouse to approve the 2023 School Board meeting calendar with all meetings held at 6:00 p.m. ~ (Carried Unanimously)

5.2 Compensation: Motion by Ringer, second by VanHouse to approve the compensation of $300/month for officers, $275/month for members with the addition of $25 per meeting if over 2 meetings per month. ~ (Carried Unanimously)

5.3 Financial Institutions: Motion by Ringer, second by Korri to approve the following financial institutions for Lake Superior School District #381 for 2023: The Lake Bank, MN Trust on behalf of PMA, MSDLAF+ (MN School Dist. Liquid Asset Fund Plus) on behalf of PFM, Asso­ciated Bank, N.A., Northland Trust Services, Bremer Bank, N.A. ~ (Carried Unanimously)

5.4 Official Newspaper for 2022:

Motion by Ringer, second by Korri to approve the Lake County Press as the official paper for 2023. Those in Favor: Ringer, Korri, Hagedorn Those against: Broin, VanHouse, Ti­boni Absent: Radle ~ (Tie Vote)

Discussion

Roll Call Vote: The following voted in favor thereof: Korri, Ringer

The following voted against: Broin, Tiboni, VanHouse The following were absent: Radle The following abstained: Hage­dorn (Motion Failed) The North Shore Journal will be the legal newspaper for LSSD for 2023.

5.5 Legal Representation: Motion by Ringer, second by Van­House to retain Ratwik, Roszak & Maloney as the District’s legal counsel for 2023. ~ (Car­ried Unanimously)

6.0 DELEGATE AUTHORIZATION TO BUSINESS MANAGER. ~ ELEC­TRONIC FUND TRANSFERS: Mo­tion by Korri, second by Ringer to grant authorization to the business manager for electronic fund trans­ferring. ~ (Carried Unanimously)

7.0 ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Hagedorn, second by VanHouse to adjourn the meeting at 6:12 p.m. ~ Carried Unanimously
